Program Description

The Psychology Master of Arts Program provides you with a solid academic background in clinical psychology as it is applied within a community mental health framework. This program offers you supervised experience in a variety of therapeutic interventions. Career Possibilities

The Master of Arts in Psychology: Clinical Psychology prepares you for a career in counseling, teaching and research in community settings, which includes public or private agencies. Eighteen units of additional course work equips you for private practice as a marital and family therapist.

Career opportunities in the educational sector include research and psychological assessment as well as student affairs counseling and community college teaching. The business sector employs clinical psychology graduates as affirmative action directors, human relations trainers and employee assistance counselors.

Graduate School Possibilities

Many graduates from our Master's program pursue doctoral studies. Our graduates are successful in gaining admission to and graduating from the doctoral programs of their choice.

Admission Procedures

A. Mail the following documents directly to:

1. Departmental application for admission to the Master of Arts in Psychology program (Clinical track).
2. One official transcript from each college attended.
3. Official score report of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for General Aptitude or the Miller Analogy Test (MAT). Call the Testing Office (243-3909) to obtain schedule for the GRE and the MAT.
4. Three letters of recommendation.

B.      You may be asked to attend a personal interview as part of the selection procedure.

C.      Submission of university application and supporting documents.

D.      All documents listed under item "A" must be on file in the Department of Psychology in order for your application to be considered for entrance to the program. The deadline for applications is March 1 for entrance to the program in the fall semester.

Admission Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science/Arts Degree or equivalent from a fully accredited institution.
• Completion of GRE Aptitude Test or Miller Analogy Test.
• At least a "B" average in the last 60 semester units attempted (excluding lower division and extension units).
• Successful completion of the specific undergraduate courses or their equivalent, with at least a "B" average:
