POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MATHEMATICS
The Mathematics Department at California State University, Dominguez Hills invites applications for two tenure-track assistant or associate professor positions. We seek people who are strong teachers with a promising research program. We are particularly interested in people who will help us build our program and create opportunities for our students by sponsoring undergraduate research projects and collaborating with other faculty or people in industry on research or projects. Appointments take effect fall semester 2005. Appointment and start date are subject to the availability of funds.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- teach a variety of courses for undergraduate mathematics majors, service courses, and remedial courses;
- maintain appropriate research and scholarly activities;
- participate in department seminars and colloquia;
- assist with student advising and program development;
- serve on departmental, school, and university committees.
Note: our typical teaching load is twelve units per semester but faculty who are active in grants and projects use grant funds to reduce their teaching load. Published research is expected and is a requirement for tenure and promotion.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Ph.D. in Mathematics. Ability to teach a broad range of mathematics and service courses to students with diverse backgrounds and skills. Commitment and ability to maintain an active program of scholarship and/or research.
- Preferred: Specialty in applied mathematics or statistics is preferred in one of the positions, but strong applicants from all fields matching/complementing current interests in the department will be seriously considered. Ability to work on collaborative projects with other math/science faculty and/or scientists in industry. Ability to develop research projects for undergraduate mathematics and science students. Ability to work with and teach courses for prospective mathematics teachers. Familiarity with computers.
Upon appointment all candidates must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the United States of America.
RANK AND SALARY
Rank as assistant or associate professor and salary are negotiable and depend upon qualifications and professional experience.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
California State University, Dominguez Hills is located in the Los Angeles area and first opened in 1965. It is one of the twenty-three campuses of the state-supported California State University system. CSUDH is an urban, comprehensive, public university that serves over 12,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. More than 70% of our student body comes from under-represented ethnic communities, making ours one of the most culturally diverse student bodies in the country. We have a very strong mathematics education group and are proud that most of our mathematics majors intend to become teachers, but we would also like to interest more of our students in the wider range of professional opportunities that is available to technically trained people in the Los Angeles area. The CSUDH Mathematics Dept. offers a Master of Arts in the Teaching of Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and we teach many service courses. We have eight full-time teaching faculty with a variety of backgrounds and research interests, another who works primarily in administration, and several talented faculty who teach part time. Our department and university are in a period of growth and improvement.
