The role of peroxiredoxin in radiation resistant breast cancer cells. To understand the mechanism underlying radiation resistance and eventually find therapeutic methods to overcome this problem.

Duarte, CA, 6/2001 - 6/2005:
Acquired radiation resistance breast cancer cell line (MCF+FIR30) is highly resistance to radiation and therefore suitable to be used as a model system to study the adaptive survival to chronic ionizing radiation. I have identified a peroxiredoxin protein that is significantly up regulated in radiation resistant breast cancer cells using comparative 2D proteomic analysis. I am further identifying the role of this protein in radiation resistant cancer cells.
