Opportunities for Academic Year 2008-2009

1) Student Research Support
Continued support for students interested in doing research in one of the STEM disciplines.

Funds can be used for research materials, reagents, equipment and/or stipend.

Eligibility criteria are that the student must:

a) be conducting research in a STEM discipline.
b) be an individual who has faced or faces social, educational or economic barriers to careers in STEM.
c) not be participating in other minority research programs (e.g. MBRS).
d) be interested in pursuing a graduate degree in STEM.
e) be an undergraduate (but not be pursuing a second bachelor’s degree).

Student and faculty mentor must submit a research proposal, and the project should aim to be completed by the end of the semester. Students are expected to present their work at CSUDH Student Research Day.

2) Transfer Student Lab Fees Reimbursement Program
Transfer students can apply to have their lab fees in STEM courses reimbursed.

3) International Research Opportunity at La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica.
Limited number of slots are available for students who wish to conduct research in tropical ecology in Costa Rica. LSAMP funds will cover the cost of the trip, including air fare, travel insurance, transportation and station fees (housing and food).

4) GRE Prep Workshop
Slots are available for students to attend an intensive 7-week GRE prep workshop adminstered by Princeton Review.
